Not a feature idea: Just something to be aware of - Blend2D Vector Engine is supremely fast
-
https://blend2d.com/ - Blend2D engine is an open source, permissive Zlib licensed vector rendering engine. What's unique about it is that it is blazingly fast (I tried it in a sandbox) and is very optimised for multithread performance, but does not need GPUs. I've suggested Inkscape to ditch ageing Cairo and adopt it. Just a project to be aware of if you're not already.
Performance benchmarks are here: https://blend2d.com/performance.html - It compares very well against others such as Skia and Cairo.

@Daniel I’ve taken a look at this rendering engine. Overall it feels really good, but there is still plenty of work left to do, meaning it’s still a work in progress. If it gets fully polished in the future, it will likely be unbeatable in the field of CPU rendering.
-
@Daniel I will test this at some point in the near future.
-
@VectorStyler: Well, my friend tested it and says it is atrociously fast.
So please do test. And see if you can take anything from it for Vs. It's Zlib. So fully permissive license. To use in commercial ware too. But I've been told by others that Vello probably is faster for a hybrid engine that uses both GPU and CPU. For pure CPU, Blend2D holds the spot. -
@monsterfox: It misses several key features: The ability to do boolean operations is still missing. And it's a serious lack for a vector engine.
-
@Daniel Blend2D is a rendering engine (not a vector engine).
It does not need boolean operations.But I think it does not support all PDF blend modes (required)
-
@VectorStyler: I miswrote. You're right.

@Daniel Vello + Blend2D would be the most powerful combination available right now. It would be amazing if these could be integrated into VS. I downloaded and tested two applications these past two days: Affinity and VectorCraft. Both are noticeably faster than VS. Especially VectorCraft — even as open-source software, it outperforms Affinity in speed. Overall, VS still has substantial room for performance improvement. I hope to get an extremely smooth experience in version 1.4.

@monsterfox: Check their Architecture under Source folder. It confirms they're use Vello. Vello is indeed extremely fast rendering.
