Usability : Use editor tools to create repeater, halftone, contour, mirror group, align to path effects

  • The new effects are excellent and add a lot of value. However, their current workflow feels a bit challenging because it doesn’t fully align with the established interaction patterns used for other shape-effects.

To improve usability and maintain consistency across the software, I would like to suggest adopting the same behaviour already in place for mesh, distortion, warp, blend, and similar effects:

    • Use the Editor Tool to apply the effect to the selected object(s) when it hasn’t been created yet.
    • Use the Editor Tool to modify interactive parameters directly on the canvas.
    • Enable double-clicking the Editor Tool icon to open the effect’s parameter panel for more detailed adjustments (some effects may also benefit from adding a preview option here).
    • (Optional) Add a small pencil icon at the bottom of the Appearance panel to quickly activate the Editor Tool for the selected effect, similar to the behaviour in the Shape Effects panel.

I hope this suggestion is helpful. Thank you for the continuous improvements and for considering this feedback — the ongoing development is greatly appreciated.

This cannot be added to the Node editor tool, as the Node editor must stay with editing shapes of the effect or the original object.
But separate tools for effects exists.

Use the Editor Tool to apply the effect to the selected object(s) when it hasn’t been created yet.

This will be added. to the existing tools

  • @VectorStyler thank you.

Yes, I meant use the new Effect Editor tools, not the Node tool
